League Cup 2011

Was blog hopping when i found this on Sufi's Blog. The draw for the Saturday league cup is already out, and we are one of the 16 teams that will be playing for the cup. This is the draw....

Team Intense Football Club vs Changi Simei Football Club (D)
Team Goat FC vs Naranja AFC

Eclectico FC vs Kelly-P Football Club
Happy Everybody FC vs FC Hospitality

Standard Chartered Bank FC vs British Club 3rd XI
H4 United FC vs Phoenix United

AANG Wolf Football Club vs Rosso FC
AC FATE vs SUFI FC

(Bold names are those who have been Seeded.)

The cup will start in June and looking at the draw we will be facing our old rivals Naranja who we have yet to beat ever since our endeavours in D2D. If we manage to get a win we would have a high chance of playing against Sat Div 1 runners-up Team intense (which is really good to judge our standards!).

But i would not get carry away and start thinking about Team Intense just yet! We would have to win Naranja 1st! I'm currently checking with yiwen for more information about the cup. Will filled you guys more when i have the information! Meanwhile lets get ready for this cup challenge! This is our 1st cup and lets try to land it!

Lesson Learnt!

Team Goat 1 Eclectico1

(WeiMing)

Today's game was the 'Offical' game against Eclectico FC. We brought more or less the same men who played the unoffical game with them but it was them who brought changes to their team. Most notably was their no.7, the 2 new centre backs and the very chiongster no.14.

From my point of view, i feel that we were outplayed in the whole field. Our attackers hardly had chance to get hold of the ball, the midfield is being played by their no.7 and 14 combined. Lastly our defence is having a hard time dealing with their winger and striker.

But it is in these type of situation where we will be able to grow and learn from our mistakes. 1 thing we have learnt that it is not feasible to keep pumping the ball up trying to get pass their defence (as they are freakishly tall and it was my fault for the decision to play this style). Somehow like what you guys have said, we are lacking the passing and movement in our team and we should really get it fix! Being a young team is no longer an excuse, i promise to work with the comms even harder to make this 'connection' work!

I wont talk much about the game just only the goal that WeiMing have delivered. It was on a counter attack that made it happened. With 4 goatees still in the opp half a counter attacked was launched down the left flank. JC brought the ball down the flank and put in a beautiful cross into the 6-yard box. Going over 2 Goat members, WeiMing was at the back post waiting to pounce on the ball. His head met the oncoming ball and the opp goalkeeper was left help-less in between the sticks.

We should still have 1 or maybe 2 friendly game before the start of the league. Lets try and get a win before our season start alright! And guys remember, we are still on a 12 games unbeaten run! Let's carry it on!

A Talk with Boonie!

For today's interview, I have set down with one of our blogger, BoonWee to talk about the team. Having since joined the team since our Blue jersey era (3rd Gen) he has always be committed to Goat cause no matter is it playing at his best in games or ferrying players around for our soccer games! Lets hear what he have to say!

Me: HI Boonie! how are u today?

Boon: Hi, getting fat each day when there's no soccer

Me:  Bobian leh, can't have soccer on weekdays due to work commitments right? Rumours are in that u are soucing for a new boots! Mind sharing with us what kind of boots are you looking for? Or have u already chosen one?

Boon: I am a big fan of Adidas, but a bigger fan of myself. I believe that it's the player that brings the boots to new height, HAHA but stitched boots are definitely better, in terms of durability. the "glued" type will wear and tear too fast once there's a hole.

Me There's a note for all people buying boots out there! Right now according to the team list you are one of the players who are able to play in a lot of different position (versatile) . Do u have a place in mind where u would like to play? Or u think u will be best excel at?

Boon:  Actually, I still prefer to play as a striker. But as age and work catches up, I am beginning to lose that match fitness (which is the most fundamental attribute to a player). Maybe in due time, I will start to sit out and be on a coaching role. I hope that does not stands in any other committee members' interest!

Me: Haha i believe not! And i do think that for social level u are still capable of playing outfield than being handed a coaching role! With the new season starting soon, who do u think will be the next star for Team Goat?

Boon:  I believe that no team can ever thrive on with a single player, but I believe our young players like Kiong and Khalid, and even our semi-young midfield general Kahwoon, has seen remarkable improvements during the second half of the seasonThe strength in GOAT lies in our diversity and depth in our team

Me: Since we are talking about Strength, I would like to ask where do you think our weakness is?

Boon: On where our team can improve, that will be on match fitness and attitude. Technically and tactically, we are pretty much okay. I recall TJC times, where we ran maybe 5km 2 times a week coupled with speed endurance training. That was when I played the best, really. After that, it was all downhill.

If you dont get what I'm trying to say, picture this: You ran after the opponent for the ball, make a splendid tackle on him, and gets the ball, runs down the flank past another 2 defenders, and then deliver a cross to nowhere.

HAHA, this is the epic example of match fitness. when you don't have match fitness, you lose focus.

And also with the potentially overcrowded wings and strike force, I am excited to uncover our next midfield star. Perhaps we might be able to find a more dominant midfield player to complement the aerial powess of Kahwoon and the delicate footwork of Thaddeus.

Me: U personally voted for Espzen, may i know why u made that choice and how it could help the team?

Boon: I voted for Espzen, in a leap of good faith that the management would be more capable than that at D2D. In D2D, the management allows teams to postpone their matches at free will which really makes the league rather inconsistent. (some edits done)

Me: Last question like i ask everyone that i have interviewed so far, which div should be at and why? (total 5 div)

Boon:  It will be good to start from the middle. But anywhere, come 5 years time, we will be at the top.

Me: Naise i hope dont need 5years maybe 1 will do? haha! thanks for ur time!

A talk with our Trilinguist (maybe more?)

For my 2nd interview i have approached our team Trilinguist (Chinese, English and Japanese) for an interview before he flew off to Korea for 2 weeks! Yes, that person is no other than Benny who is currently playing as a right winger for the team.

Me:Hi Benny! thanks for taking ur time off before u fly off to a training stint in korea! (LOL)

Benny: LOL sibeh talk cock

Me: U have been in the team sayyyyy 1 year now? how do u think of team goat? and what are the differences between GOAT and other teams that u have played for?

Benny: yah about 10 months already, i think the team is quite united and closely-knit? Even though we only meet on weekends. And yah, we have a strong fighting spirit!

Me: True that! True that! u started off as a right back cum dm. Now u are a right winger in the team! How do u feel about that position? do u think that it is a upgrade/promotion for u?

Benny: LOL in terms of getting to the goal yes! and it shows, i scored in consecutive matches! (self-praise)

Me: yes yes not to mention the assist last weekend!

Benny: but yeah, i like playing on the wings although i also think i can do a decent job anywhere else so where the team needs me i'll be there LOL

Me: Commtiment!! Love it! LOL! You voted for Espzen, may i know why you would make that choice? how would Goat benefit from it?

Benny: although the last match saw some cockup with the organizer generally i think espzen has better resources to run a better organized league competition and we can get to play at better pitches!

Me: aaa! good points! with the new season coming up real soon, which players in Goat u think would be the upcoming player of the season in Espzen?

Benny: LOL! ME LAH!

Me: Wa lan sibei standard ans! HAHAHA! same question like liang, beside u, u think anyone might have a chance to contest with u?

Benny: LOL i think everyone has a chance actually it all depends when the season gets underway who knows, people might step up their game and contribute with solid performances when we don't expect it as long as the team keeps winning anybody can be player of the season. (wah sibei politically correct answer)

Me: Very true! Very politically correct! HAHAHA! Ok last question before u start leaving, which division u hope we will be in at Espzen? and why?

Benny: not too bothered actually. i think we can overcome any competition if we continue to fight hard, remained focused throughout 90 minutes, and play to our best just like how we played last season.

Me: Alright! thanks enjoy ur trip and see u back at 21st! Bon Voyage!

Thats the interview i did recently with Benny! more will be up in the coming weeks! If you guys wonder why am i doing this? I'm actually hoping that everyone will get more involved in the team and read about one another feelings towards the team! Also, for a more committed and bonded team! Cya guys soon!
