Appreciation from the old man

At first I was deliberating within myself if I should write such "emo stuff" on our blog especially since we are in such an intense period of the season. After reading our goalie-cum-president's post, however, I felt I should do something being the most senior around.

Some of you maybe aware and very surprise why I am willing to sponsor yiwen for his latest boots. Firstly, if you were never told, he has been my best friend since 1998 and we have went thru tonnes. Although we went a little distanced since JC and subsequently when I left for London, I really treasure this brother of mine. Secondly, I am very thankful for him to bring me into this team where I have thoroughly enjoyed myself since the first game we have played together (Damai Sec)! Yiwen and I was bonded through football and the joy of the game had eluded me since I left secondary school. In this team, I rediscovered my joy and passion for playing football again because of all of you around me. To be honest with you, some of the weekends I come to the game exhausted with a week loaded with work and stress. Seeing you guys and to share a wonderful saturday afternoon is a privilege whether I do get match time or not.

By coming every weekend we get to play football with laughter and love for the game is evident in most cases and believe it or not, I found great joy in seeing everyone beaming from face to face. Nonetheless, I do feel for our management as well as we are really in a position to challenge for the title and some over-emphasis of nicking a win is inevitable. However, we are amateur after all and some of the guys are so young that they need our patience and guidance not particularly in technique but more psychologically.

I can proudly say that although we are not professional, each of us to give our 110% when we are on the pitch fighting for each other. For that, each of you deserve my respect and I salute you for that. Having said that, we all do make mistakes sometimes and we have to stick together even more during these times because we play as a team, in victory or defeat.

Football is just like life. We win some, we lose some. More importantly we have to grow up through these and when you look back in time to come, these are the moments of life that you will savour (yes, I know I am getting old). So let us go through this crunch time, and more time to come, together as Team G.O.A.T. - with sweat, blood, laughter and disappointment.

I am proud to be your teammate and a brother to everyone of you. Yes, all of you.

Till I hear your laughter and see your smiles again this saturday, my most sincere gratitude to everyone of you. A big thank you. =)
